OSHA Federal Regulation, 29CFR1910.178, Powered Industrial Trucks, clearly states and defines the fact that “Forklift Instructor’s” or “Forklift Trainers” are not certified and are not required to attend a “Train the Trainer” class in order to be approved, authorized or certified by any organization, authority or agency including OSHA.
“Train The Trainer…Myth Busted” is supported by the following article:
Forklift Instructors and Trainers DO NOT need to be Certified.
Forklift Instructors and Trainers DO NOT have to attend a “Train The Trainer” Class in order to be an OSHA Compliant forklift training instructor.
You, as an employer, can provide your own “In-House” OSHA compliant forklift operator safety training course.
In order to be OSHA compliant, all forklift training must be site-specific and equipment-specific. Training must be provided by the employer for their specific forklifts and application. The forklift training operator’s authorization does not transfer with the operator or from the operator’s previous employer to the next employer in terms of OSHA compliance.
